Supporting Transgender, Nonbinary & Gender-Expansive Individuals
Eating disorders disproportionately affect transgender, nonbinary, and gender-expansive people — yet care is often designed for cisgender norms. Research shows elevated rates of disordered eating in gender-diverse populations, driven by stigma, body dysphoria, and medical gatekeeping.
Our nutrition team provides gender-affirming, weight-inclusive care that understands both the feeding/body-image risks and the needs of gender journeys.
Who We Support
Transgender, nonbinary, and gender-expansive individuals with eating disorders (anorexia, bulimia, OSFED, ARFID)
Individuals using nutrition or body change for gender congruence (muscle dysmorphia, suppression of curves)
Clients navigating gender-affirming hormone therapy or surgery with nutrition/feeding concerns
Adolescents and young adults facing early body changes and identity formation
Our Approach
We integrate evidence-based frameworks like CBT-E, ACT, and Intuitive Eating with gender-affirming care protocols. Our care:
Uses affirming language and respects pronouns, identity, and body goals
Coordinates with gender-affirming care teams (endocrinology, mental-health, etc)
Honors co-occurring issues (body dysmorphia, self-harm, anxiety) in gender diverse populations
Why It Matters
Gender-diverse patients often present for care later, at higher weights, or with less visible symptoms — which can delay recognition and treatment.
Creating a safe, evidence-informed space signals to both clients and referring providers that you truly "get it."
